Open the game’s official Steam store page, confirm exactly what is free, and complete Steam’s own claim flow. Following a link from this directory does not claim or download the game for you.
1. Check the product
Confirm that the page is on store.steampowered.com and that its title matches the game you want. Look for whether the offer is the full game, a demo, DLC or a bundle. Free DLC can require a separately owned base game.
Our game pages show the Steam App ID and link to the matching official product. Start from the free-game catalog or free-to-keep offers.
2. Read the offer wording
For a permanent promotional license, look for Free to Keep and the claim deadline. The zero price alone does not tell you what kind of access you receive. Steam documents that these promotions grant a permanent license when claimed during the promotion. Source: Steamworks.
For Free to Play, the base-game entry is free; optional purchases may still appear. For Play For Free or a Free Weekend, access ends with the event. Compare the four free-game types.
3. Complete the claim on Steam
Use the action offered by Steam while signed in to the account that should receive the game. Button labels and steps can vary by product and offer. During our Hexologic check, its official page displayed an Add to Account action; this is an observation from that promotion, not a universal button label. Official Hexologic page.
Check Steam’s completion message and your account before assuming the claim succeeded. Follow any product-specific eligibility requirements shown there.
4. Recheck if the offer has changed
A directory is a snapshot. Compare its last verification time with the current Steam page, and use the official page if the price or wording differs. Claim deadlines have timezones, and regional eligibility can vary. Our offer pages identify the timing source and any known limits.
For a free weekend, installing before the deadline does not make the license permanent. Steamworks explains what happens when temporary access ends.
